Tambaram School

This 62,000 sq ft school in Tambaram was completed in 2023. The brief called for flexible classroom blocks arranged around a central courtyard that doubles as an assembly ground. Load-bearing masonry on the lower levels carries a lightweight steel roof above, keeping spans long enough for partition-free teaching halls.

Daylight shaped the plan. Every classroom faces north or south to avoid the worst of a low east-west sun. A deep canopy shades the courtyard through the harshest afternoons. Materials are restrained: exposed brick on the elevations, polished concrete on the floors, and a single dark accent on the doors and the railings.
